What Is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy, also known as Musculoskeletal Therapy, is a physical therapy designed to prevent, treat, manage, and rehabilitate musculoskeletal pain and associated pathologies. It also helps improve muscle and joint function, enhancing performance and overall well-being.

What Is A Myotherapist?

A Myotherapist is an allied health professional specializing in the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain and associated conditions. Myotherapists are trained in a wide range of orthopaedic, neurologic, and functional testing to fully understand a patient's physical condition.

How Does Myotherapy Work?

Myotherapy is based on Western medical principles of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and pathology. It includes a range of manual therapies, such as:

  • Soft tissue therapy
  • Joint mobilisation
  • Myofascial cupping therapy
  • Dry needling
  • Corrective and rehabilitative exercise
  • Taping
  • TENS machines
  • Prescriptive advice for muscle and pain management

What Can Myotherapy Help With?

Myotherapy can prevent and treat a wide range of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, including:

  • Myofascial pain
  • Stiffness & aches from poor posture
  • Acute and chronic neck pain
  • Knee, leg & foot aches (shin splints, runner’s knee)
  • Overuse syndromes (tendonitis, tennis/golfer’s elbow, carpal tunnel)
  • Acute & chronic back pain / sciatica
  • Shoulder pain (impingement, frozen shoulder)
  • Hand & finger tingling (thoracic outlet syndrome)
  • Arthritis & degenerative joint pain
  • Fibromyalgia syndrome
  • Pain & disorders linked to stress & tension
  • Tension headaches and migraines
  • Sports injuries (sprains, strains, tears)
  • Tendinopathy
  • Rehabilitation from surgery

How Nick Treats Clients:

Nick’s treatments are fully customized to your specific needs. Each session will be tailored depending on whether you're seeking recovery, pain relief, or relaxation. Nick uses a combination of manual therapy, dry needling, and cupping to target your pain points and provide long-term recovery.

Recommendations for Sessions:

  • 30-Minute Sessions: Ideal for a quick check-up or to address a specific issue that needs immediate attention.
  • 60-Minute Sessions: Best for a more in-depth treatment, chronic issues, or a broader approach to recovery. This allows Nick to thoroughly address your concerns.

How Often Should You Book?

  • For first-time clients, Nick recommends booking two sessions in the first 1-1.5 weeks. This helps get you on the right track quickly.
  • After the initial sessions, plan for a follow-up session every 4-5 weeks to maintain progress, prevent pain, and stay up and running well.
  • For ongoing issues, some clients may benefit from weekly or bi-weekly sessions throughout the year, depending on the complexity of their condition and goals.

Rates:

  • 30-minute session: $40
  • 60-minute session: $75

If you're looking to be covered by your work extended health benefits, we highly recommend booking with one of our Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs).
